Veteran radio broadcaster John Laws has told Sky News throughout his six-decade radio career he has seen many "come and go, but I haven't seen anybody better than Alan (Jones)".

Sky News host and radio broadcaster Alan Jones announced on Tuesday he will be retiring from radio on May 29 after 35 years in the industry.

Mr Jones cited medical advice as his reason, revealing experts cautioned him about the excessive workload in juggling radio, TV and print media.

After many years working on rival radio stations, both Laws and Jones were considered to be rivals, but Mr Laws maintains "he and I get along extremely well".

"We used to snipe at each other but in a laughing way … he wasn't a rival".

Mr Laws told Sky News host Chris Kenny, Jones is a "very consummate broadcaster" and said the retiring radio veteran does "everything right" which will no doubt carry-on to his future endeavours.
