1. Ready Position
Feet: Shoulder-width apart, one foot slightly in front.
STRONG BASE as you have in passing
Knees: Bent, body low and balanced.
Hands: Up by your forehead, shaped like you’re holding a triangle or making a “window” with your thumbs and pointer fingers.
2. Hand Shape
Make a triangle window with your thumbs and index fingers.
Hands should be curved (like holding a round bowl).
Keep fingers spread and strong, not flat.
Thumbs pointing towards your eyes-NOT OUT
Wrinkle in your wrist
Soft and Firm
This will feel unnatural
3. Contact
The ball should touch the pads of your fingers (not your palms).
Elbows are bent, pointing out, not down.
Keep your wrists firm — don’t let them flop.
Let the ball come all the way into your window, do not attack the ball
Window is right on top of forehead with a strong base on your lower body
Taking the ball too high will lead to it going behind you, if theres a lot of force, or to be inaccurate
More of a wrist action.
4. Push With Legs
Use your legs to give power, not just your arms.
Straighten knees and extend arms as you push the ball up.
Finish with arms straight, fingers pointing where the ball goes.

Finish with arms fully extended, fingers relaxed and pointing up.
Stay balanced — don’t fall forward.

Common Mistakes
Catching/holding the ball too long → it’s a lift.
Hands too low → ball hits your face or chest.
Using just arms, not legs → weak set. You wont be able to get it high enough or to the outside
Flat palms → no control, ball goes wild.
Thumbs out → adds spin on ball and you could jam your finger
Easy At-Home Setting Drills
Wall Setting: Stand a few feet from a wall, set the ball straight up against it. Pay attention to your base, your hands/window and using your wrist to set. You might have to reset your hands every 2nd set until the hand structure feels more natural because ti will feel very unnatural for quite awhile

Even if your’e not a setter, you may take a ball high passing, or need to take the second ball when the setter took the first ball or cannot get there
