We preview the topics of the chapter which introduces some of the most important probability distributions for different types of variables, including the Bernoulli distribution for binary variables, the Multinomial distribution for multinomial variables, and the star of the chapter, the Gaussian distribution, for continuous variables. All of these distributions are members of the exponential family, and we will discuss some of the important properties of this family. The chapter concludes with a short section on modelling probability distributions using non-parametric methods.
