airplane landing is not just about touching the runway. at the moment of landing, the wheels are almost at zero speed, while the aircraft is moving at very high speed. this creates a huge challenge for the landing gear, tyres, brakes and anti-skid system. in this video, we explain how the landing gear deploys, how the locking stay holds it firmly, and how the oleo pneumatic shock strut absorbs the heavy landing force to protect the aircraft body from a sudden jerk.
we also explain how an airplane stops safely after landing. spoilers reduce lift and push the aircraft onto the runway, carbon disc brakes create strong braking force, and the anti-skid system prevents the wheels from locking or skidding. along with this, the video explains touchdown protection, hydraulic brake backup systems and thrust reversal, where the jet engine does not actually rotate in reverse, but the thrust reverser redirects airflow to help slow down the aircraft faster.
