In a live recording from the Amerikahaus in Munich in 198, Friedrich Gulda reveals his versatility, both in his keyboard playing and as a composer with this original composition.
The piece was written in 1974 for his son, Paul (born in 1961), and reflects Gulda's signature "crossover" style. It blends classical precision with playful, jazz-influenced melodies and a gentle, improvisational feel.

That full concert also includes a companion piece titled "For Rico" (dedicated to his son Rico, born 1968), which was written in the same year. Over the course of the concert Gulda performs three preludes and fugues from Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier on the clavichord, then on the piano, he reveals his own re-working of Schubert’s song Der Wanderer as well as Debussy’s 'Reflets dans l’eau'.
